How Three Gum Treatments In Turkey Differ

Gum disease therapy, aesthetic contouring and gum grafting are not one procedure with three names. One treats infection, one reshapes healthy gum, and one adds gum where it has receded. Only contouring has a published HCT fee. A graft is quoted after assessment.

People ask for “gum treatment” when they mean three different things. Disease therapy is for inflamed or infected gum and the bone that holds the teeth. Aesthetic contouring changes the outline of gum that is already healthy, for example a gummy smile or an uneven margin. A gum graft adds tissue where the gum has pulled back and the root is exposed. HCT does not treat those as the same visit, the same consent, or the same fee. Bleeding, swelling and the other warning signs are set out on the page about the signs and causes of gum disease. This article does not repeat that list.

01

The Three Treatments

The useful first question is what the gum needs, not which instrument a clinic owns. Infection, shape and missing tissue lead to different plans. A photograph of a smile can start the conversation. It cannot decide which of the three applies.

Disease Therapy

Gum disease starts as the body’s reaction to bacterial plaque. Early inflammation can stay at the gum edge. If it is left, it can move under the gum, form pockets, and damage the bone around the teeth. Professional guidance describes treatment as removing that plaque, teaching a cleaning routine, and reviewing the gums afterwards. In more advanced disease the dentist may clean under the gum, use antibiotics for some infections that have not settled, or discuss surgery when deep pockets remain. That surgery is still disease treatment. It is not a cosmetic reshape, and it is not a graft to cover a receded root for appearance.

The NHS describes the choice as depending on how severe the disease is: cleaning advice and a hygienist visit when it is early, and deep cleaning, antibiotics, extraction of some teeth, or gum surgery when it is serious. The European Federation of Periodontology describes the same idea in stages: hygiene, professional cleaning of pockets, reassessment, and surgery under local anaesthetic only if pockets remain. Those pages describe groups of patients. They do not promise that every case stops, and they do not set an HCT fee.

Aesthetic Contouring

Aesthetic contouring, sometimes called gum reshaping, changes the edge of gum that is healthy. People ask for it when a lot of gum shows in a smile, or when one tooth looks shorter because the gum sits lower or higher than its neighbour. The tooth underneath is not replaced. The gum is trimmed or reshaped so the visible length of the teeth looks more even. How that margin is planned is on the aesthetic gum contouring page. This article does not copy that procedure.

Contouring on gum that is still infected is the wrong order. Red, bleeding, swollen gum is a reason to treat the disease first and to review the shape only when the inflammation has settled. A laser or a scalpel does not change that. The instrument is a detail of the contouring visit. It does not turn the visit into disease therapy, and it does not turn it into a graft.

Gum Grafting

A gum graft is used when gum has receded and the root surface is exposed, or when the band of firm gum is too thin for the dentist to work safely. Tissue is added, often from another site in the mouth such as the palate, so the root can be covered or the gum can be thickened. The graft has to heal onto the site. Covering the root is the aim. It is not a result that can be promised from a photograph, and the amount of cover varies from person to person.

This is not a bone graft. A bone graft before an implant rebuilds jawbone so an implant can be placed. Periodontal surgery for disease can also use bone-replacement material inside a pocket. Neither of those is a soft-tissue gum graft. A quote that says only “graft” has not yet said which one it means.

02

Who Each Treatment Suits

Suitability is decided from the gum, the pockets, the bone on a radiograph when one is needed, and your medical history. Wanting a different smile line is not, by itself, a reason to operate on inflamed gum.

When Disease Therapy May Be Suitable

Bleeding on brushing, gum that stays swollen, pockets, or teeth that have become loose are reasons to assess for disease therapy. The dentist may still find a cause that is not plaque alone, including smoking or diabetes. Treatment is planned to control inflammation. It is not a cosmetic menu.

When Contouring May Be Suitable

Contouring may be discussed when the gum is healthy and the concern is the outline: a gummy smile, or margins that make neighbouring teeth look uneven. The gum should be pink and quiet, not red and bleeding. The bite and the teeth still have to be examined, because the gum edge is only one part of the smile.

When A Gum Graft May Be Suitable

A graft may be discussed when the gum has receded, the root is sensitive or exposed, or the remaining gum is too thin. Recession from brushing too hard, from the position of the tooth, or from past disease does not all lead to the same graft. If the recession is still active because of periodontitis, the infection is treated first. Adding tissue onto inflamed gum is not the opening step.

When A Plan May Need To Wait

Uncontrolled medical conditions, and some medicines, change healing. Tell the clinic before you book flights. Elective contouring and elective grafting are usually postponed in pregnancy. Disease that needs cleaning may still be treated, and that decision belongs to the dentist who has examined you, not to a page. Smoking is associated with poorer healing after periodontal treatment and after grafts. It does not automatically rule a plan out, and it is not a reason to promise the same course as for a non-smoker.

03

What Happens In Clinic

The shared path is an examination, a written plan, the one treatment that plan names, and a review. The clinical step in the middle is different for each of the three. HCT does not offer all three on the same day as a package.

  1. 01Before TravelSend photographs of the gums, any recent radiograph, your medicines, and whether you smoke. Say if you are asking about infection, shape, or recession.
  2. 02ExaminationThe dentist looks at the gum, the teeth and the bite. Pockets are charted when disease is suspected. A photograph is not the plan.
  3. 03One TreatmentDisease therapy, contouring, or a graft. The consent and the fee match that choice. They are not bundled because the word “gum” appears in all three.
  4. 04ReviewHealing is checked against the written instructions. A home dentist continues ordinary care. A review date is not a guarantee that the problem has ended.

Disease Therapy In The Chair

After the examination, early disease is often managed with cleaning advice and a professional clean. More advanced disease needs time under the gum: the dentist removes plaque and tartar from the root surfaces inside the pockets. That is sometimes called root surface debridement. It can take more than one appointment. Antibiotics are an extra for some infections. They are not a substitute for cleaning. If pockets stay deep at review, surgery under local anaesthetic may be discussed so the roots can be cleaned where brushes cannot reach. Stitches, when they are used, are removed on the schedule the surgeon gives you. None of that is contouring, even if the gum edge looks different once the swelling settles.

Reshaping Healthy Gum

Contouring is planned on gum that is healthy. The dentist marks the new margin, numbs the area, and removes or reshapes a thin edge of gum so the teeth show in a more even line. Some cases also need the bone under the margin to be adjusted, or the gum grows back toward the old line. That detail is confirmed on the day, and it is explained on the contouring page rather than here. You should leave knowing which teeth were included. “The whole smile” is not a tooth list.

Adding Gum Tissue

A graft appointment numbs the site that needs tissue and, when the tissue comes from the palate, the donor site as well. The graft is placed and held with stitches. A dressing is sometimes used. The palate can feel raw for several days. That donor-site soreness is part of this operation, and it does not occur in a contouring visit that only trims the margin. The surgeon chooses the graft design after looking at the recession. This page does not name a membrane, a brand, or a donor site in advance.

04

The Published Fee And What Is Quoted

Only one of these three treatments has a published line on the HCT dental price list. Disease therapy and gum grafting are quoted after the examination, because the number of teeth, the depth of the pockets, and the size of a graft are not the same in every mouth. A message that offers one price for “gum treatment” has not yet said which treatment it is.

TreatmentWhat It ChangesHow The Fee Is Set
Disease TherapyInfection and the support around the teeth.Quoted after assessment. There is no published line for scaling, deep cleaning, or periodontal surgery.
Aesthetic ContouringThe outline of gum that is already healthy.£230 (EUR 270, USD 300). That is the published aesthetic line.
Gum GraftingGum tissue where the root is exposed or the gum is thin.Quoted after assessment. The price list does not publish a gum-graft fee.

What The Contouring Line Covers

The published contouring figure is the aesthetic reshape on the price list. It is not a fee for disease therapy, and it is not a fee for a graft. Hotel nights, airport transfers and flights are not inside it. If the examination shows that the gum is inflamed, the plan changes and the contouring line may no longer be the right line. The figure is confirmed after that assessment.

What Has To Be Quoted

Deep cleaning, periodontal surgery, antibiotics when they are prescribed, and a gum graft are written as their own items after the dentist has seen the mouth. A bone graft for an implant stays on that implant plan. It must not be copied across as a gum-graft price. If more than one of the three gum treatments is needed, the quote should name them on separate lines so you can see what you are agreeing to.

05

Recovery, Risks And Aftercare

Expect some soreness after treatment under the gum, after contouring, and after a graft. Swelling and a little bleeding can occur. That is a common early course, not proof that the treatment has failed, and it is not a promise that the appointment will feel like a polish. Local anaesthetic is used so the area is numb during the work. You can still feel pressure. This page does not describe the visit as free of discomfort.

The First Days

Follow the written sheet for that operation. A deep clean, a contouring visit and a graft do not share one diet rule. Soft, cool food is often advised while the gum is tender. Avoid smoking. Do not pull at stitches or at a dressing. Clean the rest of the mouth as you were shown, and keep the treated site to the routine on the sheet. Bleeding that does not slow, swelling that increases, or a fever is a reason to call the clinic rather than to wait for the flight home.

You can often fly once the team has looked at the site and given written advice. This page does not set an airline rule. Check your ticket with the airline. Do not treat the day of surgery as a beach day. The gap between a disease review, a contouring visit and a graft review is set by healing, not by a holiday date chosen first.

Risks To Discuss

Disease can persist or return if plaque control slips, or if smoking and diabetes are not taken into account. Teeth that have lost a lot of support can still be lost. Deep cleaning can leave the roots sensitive for a time. Contouring can leave sensitivity, an uneven margin, or gum that creeps back toward the old line, especially if the bone underneath was not part of the plan. A graft can fail to take, can cover only part of the root, and can leave the palate sore. Infection and bleeding are risks of surgery in the mouth. Hear those limits before you consent.

Published descriptions of periodontal care refer to groups of patients. They do not give you a personal success figure, and HCT does not print one. A result that looks even on the day can change as the gum heals. Ask what “enough” means for your own teeth before you agree.

Care At Home

Long-term gum health depends on cleaning between the teeth and on review visits. Interdental brushes, floss, or both, are chosen for the spaces you actually have. A contour or a graft still collects plaque. See a dentist at home and take the written plan: which treatment was done, which teeth were included, and when the next check should be. Those notes help maintenance. They are not a promise that a later problem will be retreated at no cost.

The HCT Team And Patient Reviews

HCT Dental Clinic sees patients in Antalya and Istanbul. The address in the page data is the Antalya clinic. Your written plan should name the clinic you are visiting and the dentist who will examine the gums. Prof. Dr. Müjde Sevimay leads prosthodontic planning when teeth and gums are restored together. Dr. Aslı Ataseven is the maxillofacial surgeon. A bone graft in implant surgery is part of her surgical work, and it is not a gum graft. Profiles are on the HCT doctors page. This article is an editorial guide by HCT Dental Clinic. It is not a medical review signed by a named dentist.

Questions About Gum Treatments

Are Gum Disease Therapy, Contouring And Grafting The Same?

No. Disease therapy treats infection and inflammation around the teeth. Aesthetic contouring reshapes gum that is already healthy. A gum graft adds tissue where the gum has receded. They are planned and priced as different treatments.

Where Are The Signs Of Gum Disease Explained?

Bleeding, bad breath, loose teeth and the other warning signs are explained on the gum disease page. This page does not repeat that list. It explains how the treatments differ.

Does Aesthetic Contouring Treat Gum Disease?

No. Contouring changes the outline of healthy gum. Active gum disease is a reason to treat the infection first. Contouring is not a substitute for that care.

Is A Gum Graft The Same As A Bone Graft?

No. A gum graft adds gum tissue. A bone graft before an implant rebuilds jawbone. The price list can show a bone-graft line for implants. It does not publish a gum-graft fee. A gum graft is quoted after assessment.

Is There A Published Fee For Gum Grafting?

No. Gum grafting is quoted after the examination. Disease therapy is quoted the same way. The only published fee among these three is the aesthetic contouring line in the fee table on this page.

Does The Contouring Fee Include A Graft Or Travel?

No. The published contouring line is for aesthetic reshaping. A gum graft, disease therapy, hotel nights, transfers and flights are not inside it.

What Should I Expect During The Appointment?

The area is numbed with local anaesthetic. You may still feel pressure. Soreness and some swelling afterwards are common. This page does not describe any of the three treatments as free of discomfort.

How Long Does Healing Usually Take?

It depends on which treatment was done. A deep clean is not the same recovery as contouring or as a graft. The written plan should say what to eat, how to clean, and when to be seen again. One number of days does not fit every case.

Can I Fly After Gum Treatment?

Often you can, once the clinic has checked the site and given written advice. This page does not set an airline rule. Check with the airline, and do not plan a beach day on the day of surgery.

Can The Gum Problem Come Back?

Yes. Periodontitis can return if plaque is not controlled. A graft may cover only part of the root. Contoured gum can become inflamed again if cleaning slips. None of the three is a permanent result you can assume in advance.

Who Will Examine The Gums?

The written plan names the dentist. Profiles of the HCT clinicians are on the doctors page. This article is not a medical review signed by one of them.

What Should I Send Before I Travel?

Photographs of the gums, any recent radiograph, a list of medicines, and whether you smoke. Say whether you are asking about infection, the shape of the gum, or recession. A photograph alone is not the plan.

Ask Which Gum Treatment The Plan Should Name

Send photographs of the gums, any recent radiograph, and a list of medicines. Ask the reply to say whether it means disease therapy, aesthetic contouring, or a gum graft, and to keep those fees on separate lines. The examination in the clinic confirms the plan.
